From relevance to permanence

AfriKin has spent a decade proving its relevance. The AfriKin Art Fair has run every year during Miami Art Week since 2015. Our 2026 World Cup exhibition, Art and the Beautiful Game, drew coverage from the Associated Press and Al Jazeera English. Our governance now includes an eleven-member board with four independent directors, and in 2025 the Arts and Business Council of Miami recognized AfriKin with its Arts and Social Impact Award.

The next phase is permanence. This campaign funds the transition from an annual event series to a standing cultural institution, one with a permanent home, year-round programming, and the infrastructure to outlast any single exhibition.

Why Permanence

Why this campaign, and why now

Miami has no shortage of art fairs. It has very few permanent institutions built specifically for African and diaspora art, scholarship, and cultural exchange. AfriKin operates as a curatorial platform at the intersection of art, academia, and industry, and that work depends on infrastructure that survives any single event, founder, or funding cycle.

Continuity for artists. A permanent institution gives artists a standing relationship, not a one-time booking. Placement, career development, and international exchange all require an organization that exists year-round, not one that reconstitutes itself each Art Week.

Credibility that compounds. Press coverage, civic recognition, and institutional partnerships accumulate value over time, but only if there is a permanent institution to attach them to. Each year AfriKin operates without a secured home, that accumulated credibility has nowhere lasting to sit.

Miami as a crossroads for Global Africa. AfriKin's premise is that Miami should be a recognized center for African and diaspora culture, not a seasonal stop on the art fair calendar. That positioning requires a physical, year-round presence, which is what this campaign funds.
