Solomon Mugutso

Solomon Mugutso (b. 1977, Buhera, Zimbabwe), based in Johannesburg, is a visual artist whose work explores the human condition through themes of hope, faith, and resilience. His recurring red box motif, the “window of hope,” symbolizes freedom and transformation amid life’s confinements. Drawing on personal experiences and the stories of others, Mugutso examines psychological and spiritual struggles, using charcoal and acrylic with a playful, childlike technique. Simplified stick figures represent the universal human soul, inviting reflection and emotional connection. His work has been exhibited across Africa, Europe, and the United States, and is included in notable collections and auction houses.
