Biography

Oyenike “Mama Nike” Davies-Okundaye (b. 1951, Ogidi, Nigeria) is a celebrated Nigerian artist, textile designer, and cultural ambassador celebrated for her mastery of Adire, batik, and embroidery. Blending traditional Yoruba techniques with contemporary expression, she founded Nike Art Gallery, Africa’s largest privately owned art gallery, and has empowered thousands of women and young artists through free art training programs across Nigeria. Her work, featured in major museums and collections worldwide, explores identity, femininity, and heritage, reflecting her lifelong mission to preserve and globalize Yoruba culture while inspiring creativity as a path to empowerment.
