Modupe Odusote

Modupe Odusote (b. 1977, Lagos, Nigeria) is an American-Nigerian artist whose contemporary African figurative works combine mixed media, acrylics, and African fabrics on wood and canvas. Drawing heavily on her Nigerian heritage and Yoruba culture, her bold, expressive images convey authenticity and reflect the vibrancy of her roots. As a Yoruba woman, an African, a Black woman in America, a professional in human sciences, an LGBTQ ally, and a mother, Odusote’s work explores self-identity, human issues, and the diversity of experiences in contemporary life. She aims to express joy, pain, vulnerability, hope, love, resilience, and the struggles of self-identity, creating representation and fostering appreciation for humanity’s diversity. Odusote approaches art with a focus on authenticity, reflection, and honest connection, believing that it gives voice to the unseen. She holds a Master’s in Human Resource Management from Rutgers University and a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from the University of Ibadan.
