Joanne Hampstead

Joanne Hampstead (b. 1969, Hendon, England) is a self-taught mixed-media artist raised in Guyana before moving to the United States at age ten. Her layered cultural background deeply informs her art, which often blends influences from African, Indian, and Indigenous Guyanese traditions. Color serves as both an aesthetic and emotional language in her work, reflecting the vivid architecture, textiles, and diversity of her upbringing. After a career in finance, Hampstead transitioned to art full-time and has since exhibited in over thirteen shows and curated two. Since relocating to Florida in 2019, she has become an active voice in the South Florida art community. Her work, often depicting women of color, is known for its warmth, vibrancy, and emotional power.
