Jakobina Gideon

Jakobina Gideon (b. 1996, Arandis, Nambia) is a self-taught multidisciplinary artist based in Windhoek. Founder of the Now(r)ism movement and Creative Asylum residency, she creates work that celebrates Black identity, spiritual freedom, and the power of untamed creativity. Her practice spans visual art, dance, film, and performance, exploring contrasts—light and darkness, silence and voice—and revealing the emotions, presence, and consciousness of her subjects. Through portraiture and interdisciplinary projects, Gideon reimagines African identity in the diaspora, emphasizing Blackness as a sacred reality to be celebrated.
