Cyrille Evegue

Cyrille Evegué (b. 1998, Yaoundé, Cameroon) is a self-taught painter whose work explores identity, human existence, and the universal experiences that connect us. Growing up moving between foster homes, art became both a means of communication and a way to process loss, depression, and the complexities of family life. At the heart of his practice is a quest to understand what animates us—our joys, pains, and the fragile light of life we carry. Through assemblages of figurative forms, Evegué examines the tension between humanity’s aspirations and the sacrifices made in pursuit of self-interest, inviting viewers into scenes that reflect both personal experience and broader societal concerns. His use of dominant blues, especially ultramarine, elevates the intrinsic value of each human being, portraying people as fragile yet resilient, animated shells experiencing universal emotions regardless of race, gender, or social status.
