Charbel Coffi

Charbel Coffi (b. 1985, Cotonou, Benin) is a self-taught artist from Cotonou, Benin, whose multidisciplinary practice encompasses painting, sculpture, and photography. Initially engaged in construction, sports, and modeling, he turned to visual art more consistently in the early 2000s, driven by concerns such as environmental crisis and cultural memory. In 2021, he founded Les Ateliers Coffi in Fidjrossè, a combined gallery, studio, and garden space dedicated to reflection and artistic transmission. Working primarily with kaolin, laterite, and found objects, Coffi develops richly textured works marked by crackles and esoteric writing, evoking time, erosion, and hidden meaning. His art has been exhibited across Africa, Europe, and the Americas, earning recognition as part of Benin’s leading contemporary artists. Through his work, Coffi maintains a consistent visual language that bridges media while honoring both personal and collective identity.
