AfriKin Foundation invites you to an intimate morning of film, scholarship, and cultural play as part of the 12th Annual AfriKin Art Fair's surrounding programming during Miami Art Week 2026.
CHANGÁ: Griot Moves brings together the documentary film Changá, a keynote address and open conversation with its co-director Prof. dr. Francio Guadeloupe, and a live domino art activation that transforms a classic Caribbean game into a space for cross-cultural dialogue.
The morning is an intellectual and cultural experience rooted in AfriKin's curatorial commitment to urgent, honest storytelling from the African diaspora. Light breakfast is served. Seating is limited.
Changá uses the Caribbean game of dominoes as an analytical lens to document how Dutch Caribbean communities create, express, and thrive within the Netherlands. From Hip Hop to Dancehall to Punk Rock and Drum and Bass, the film weaves Caribbean philosophy, rhythm, and cultural code into a meditation on diaspora, conviviality, and belonging.
The film introduces the audience to a generation of Dutch Caribbean artists working across genres, showing how cultural identity is not lost in migration but transformed, amplified, and reimagined.
The film features a cross-genre cast of Dutch Caribbean artists whose work embodies the cultural code at the heart of Changá.
Each artist in the film represents a distinct current of Caribbean expression, brought together by the shared language of domino, survival, and creative sovereignty.

Since obtaining his PhD in 2006 at the University of Amsterdam, Prof. dr. Francio Guadeloupe has worked at tertiary institutions across both the Caribbean and European parts of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. From 2013 to 2017, he served as President of the University of St. Martin, where he secured EQF level 5 accreditations and US $8 million in private funding for institutional development before Hurricane Irma forced a temporary closure of the institution.
Prof. dr. Guadeloupe currently holds the Endowed Chair in Public Anthropology of Kingdom Relations at the University of Amsterdam, where his research focuses on three interconnected questions: conviviality, or how ethnic and cultural difference generates accommodation rather than antagonism; climate, or how the threat of the Anthropocene is reshaping notions of development and the good life; and transnationality, or how digital culture and social media weave together the constituent countries of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on an everyday basis.
His work spans peer-reviewed scholarship, public writing, and now documentary filmmaking. With Changá, Prof. dr. Guadeloupe brings the methodology of public anthropology into the frame of cinema, creating a work that speaks to academic and nonacademic audiences equally.
Following the keynote and Q&A, guests are invited into a live domino activation designed as both art experience and cultural conversation. The game is the medium. The table is the classroom.
